Keiser M3 Indoor Cycle Calibration without Calibration Tool

Follow these steps to calibrate a Keiser M3 Indoor Cycle computer without the use of a calibration tool.

  1. To begin, start with the shifter in the down position
  2. Plug the circuit board wire into the computer
  3. Plug the battery wire into the computer
    • Once the battery connection is plugged in the computer will scroll through some random numbers as it is resetting. Pay close attention to the second row of numbers. It must read between 30-70 or the computer will never calibrate properly. If you see a number in this range, proceed to step 4. If not, proceed with the following steps.
      • If you are getting a reading below 30, it will result in an error 3 when trying to calibrate the computer.
      • If you are getting a reading above 70, it will result in an error 4 when trying to calibrate the computer.
    • To adjust this number, you must move the gear on the lower circuit board separate from the shifter. Keep in mind you will have about 30-40 seconds to adjust it before the screen goes blank. If the screen goes off unplug the battery and start over.

The Shifter cable connects to the "magnet cover". The magnet cover has teeth inside. They mesh with the teeth on the gear of the "Speed pickup assembly with circuit board" (lower circuit board). To adjust the number, disconnect the magnet housing from the magnet holder and turn the gear on the lower board.

    • Keep tension on the magnet holder while doing so to prevent the spring from coming loose. Do not remove the magnet holder completely from the magnet support. If that happens, you will have to re-align it and the spring before re-assembly.

  4. Once the computer has completely reset, the screen will be blank. Turn the crank arm one full revolution to wake the computer. You will see 0:00 on the fourth (bottom) line.
  5. Stop the crank and move the shifter to the 1/2 way point or until the handle appears to be straight up and down and then move the shifter back to the down position.
  6. Turn the crank arm one full revolution or until 0:01 appears on the bottom line again.
  7. Manually, fully engage the lower magnet assembly 6 times.

If done properly, you will see “CAL’b” in the fourth row. If calibration is unsuccessful, you will get an error code.

These errors range from 1-4.

(a.) ERROR 1: This error is the result of not moving the shifter far enough to ½ way.

(b.) ERROR 2: This error is the result of moving the shifter past the ½ way point.

(c.) ERROR 3: This error is seen when the lower circuit board is out of calibration. See step 3

(d.) ERROR 4: This error is seen when the lower circuit board is out of calibration. See step 3
