This video shows how to replace the flexonic belt on Keiser indoor cycles. First we show you how to replace the belt without any tools. Then we show you what it is like to replace the belt using the Keiser belt tool.
Tools:
- Phillips Screwdriver
- Flathead Screwdriver
Procedure:
We will first show you how to replace the belt without a belt tool.
- First you will remove the lower cover (referred to as upper shroud during the video). There are 7 Phillips screws that you will remove from this shroud. 3 screws on the user's right side and 4 screws on the left side. Also there is 1 Phillips screw in the belt guard cover between the flywheel and wheel guard to remove. Now you can remove this cover by grasping it and pulling upward to remove it from the bike.
- Now to remove the belt cover. Using the Phillips, remove the lower screw from the belt cover located below the pedal. Locate the safety tab at the back of the belt cover. Insert the Flathead screwdriver and gently pry out to allow the covers to separate. Remove the belt cover by pulling it outward and over the pedal.
- Begin to remove the belt by grabbing the belt in the span between the crank pulley and flywheel pulley. Pull out on the belt as you rotate the pedals.
Caution
Take care not to pinch your fingers. As seen in the video, continue to pull out on the belt as you rotate the pedals. Once you pull the belt out so far, it will remove itself from the pulleys.
- Install the new belt by first placing it around the crank arm. Route the belt under the idler pulley and around the flywheel pulley. Holding the belt in the grooves of the crank pulley, rotate the crank pulley forward to install the belt. If you are not able to rotate the crank pulley with the crank arm, reach back and use the flywheel. Due to the amount of tension, this is difficult but doable. As seen in the video.
Tech Tips
- You can prestretch the belt to make installation easier. To do this, install the belt over the flywheel pulley and the crank pulley only. Do not incorporate the idler pulley. Leave the belt installed this way for awhile to allow the belt to stretch. Keep the unit out of use while stretching the belt.
- Take care not to damage the outer edge of the belt during installation. As shown in the video, cut a piece from your old belt to use as a guard to protect your new belt.
Now we show you how to replace the belt using the Keiser belt tool.
- You will install the belt tool between the crank arm and the crank pulley. The tool side with the larger notches fit around the crank arm. As shown in the video.
- Install the new belt by first placing it around the crank arm. Route the belt under the idler pulley and around the flywheel pulley. Just past the belt tool, you will hold the belt in the grooves of the crank pulley and rotate the crank pulley forward to install the belt.
- Take care not to damage the outer edge of the belt during installation. As shown in the video, cut a piece from your old belt to use as a guard to protect your new belt. - Continue to rotate the crank arm forward until the belt is installed. If you struggle to rotate only the crank arm, reach back and turn the flywheel to help install the belt.
- Once the belt is installed, the extra piece used as a belt guard, will become free to remove.
- Check the belt alignment on the flywheel pulley and the crank pulley. You may need to adjust alignment of the belt with the grooves on the pulley as shown in the video.
- This completes how to change the flexonic belt on Keiser bikes.
