Treadmill Belts, 1 Ply VS. 2 Ply

1-ply treadmill belts are made for light-use and residential machines that run less than 4 hours a day.

2-ply treadmill belts are made for heavy-use and commercial machines that run 8 hours or more a day.

Your machine Brand, Model Name, and Model Number / Serial Number / SKU details determine if it requires a 1-ply or 2-ply belt.

Both 1-ply and 2-ply treadmill belts have a top layer and a bottom layer.

The top layer can be PVC or thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU).

The bottom layer is made of polyester thread.

The difference between a 1-ply belt and a 2-ply belt is the overall thickness of the belt.

  • A 1-ply belt has a thickness of 0.8 - 1.9 mm. Sportsmith 1-ply belts are 1.4 -1.6 mm.
  • A 2-ply belt has a thickness of 2.0 - 2.9 mm. Sportsmith 2-ply belts are 2.2 - 2.6 mm.
  • Orthopedic belts can be as thick as 3.0 - 4.5 mm. Sportsmith does not offer orthopedic belts.
