Procedure to Remove and Replace the Lift Covers:

Replacing the Upper Lift Cover Section

For the clearance necessary to remove the upper lift cover, lower the incline to its lowest position.

  1. The upper lift cover has two plastic clips that hold the upper cover section to the frame uprights. There is one on each side of the cover. Practice caution to pry the plastic cover clips from their mountings. Place a narrow, flat-bladed screwdriver into the slot at the front of the cover clip.
  2. Practicing caution, pry the cover clips away from the pivot cover with the tip of the screwdriver. The cover clip has latching tabs in the front and rear. All of these tabs must come loose from the pivot cover to remove the cover clip.
  3. After the cover clips are removed, you can lift and remove the upper cover section from the lower cover section.
  4. You can set the upper cover section aside until repairs are complete. When ready, place the replacement upper cover section back in its position on the lower cover section.
  5. You will set the cover clips back into their positions and install them by pressing them into place. Start pressing at the rear part of the clip first and press the front of the clip last.

Replacing the Lower Front Lift Cover Section

  1. After removing the upper front cover as described above, remove the four screws that hold the lower front cover section to the lower rear cover section.
  2. Now you can remove the lower front lift cover section.
  3. Set the lower front cover section aside while you make your repairs. To re-install the lower front cover section set it back in place and tighten the four mounting screws to hold it.

Replacing the Lower Rear Lift Cover Section

  1. You will need to have the front upper and lower covers removed as described above.
  2. Locate the clevis at the bottom of the lift motor and remove the hitch pin. Then remove the clevis pin from the bottom mount of the lift motor. Raise the lift motor to lift it out of its position and set it on the floor in front of the machine. You may have to disconnect the lift motor and set it aside during some repairs.
  3. Remove the battery bracket by removing the two screws that attach the bracket to the rear cover section.
  4. Move the battery from the rear cover section and set it on the floor next to the lift motor. Disconnect the battery anytime you are working on the machine. You may have to set it aside during some repairs.
  5. Take out the two screws holding the rear cover section to the frame. Now the rear cover section can be removed from the machine.
  6. Set the rear cover section aside out of the way of repairs. To reinstall, set the rear cover section back in its mounting position and install the two screws to attach it to the frame.
  7. Slide the battery back into its mounting position. Reconnect the battery leads. Make sure that the red battery lead connects to the positive battery terminal. The positive terminal is marked with red or a + to indicate it is positive. Place the battery bracket back over the battery and replace the two screws for the bracket.
  8. Place the lift motor back into its mounting position. Insert the clevis pin through the mount on the bottom of the lift motor. Install the hitch pin into the clevis pin to keep it secure.
  9. You can reinstall the lower front cover by putting it in place and tightening the four screws to hold it to the frame.

  10. Set the upper front cover section in place over the lower front cover. Place the cover clips in position on each side of the upper front cover. Press them into place starting at the rear of the cover clip and finishing at the front.

This completes the details about lift covers on a Precor elliptical. For any repair you find yourself making on your EFX, you know how to replace the lift covers.
