This video demonstrates what it takes to remove and install the wedge pins into the crank and bottom bracket assembly on some Schwinn Airdyne bikes.
The Schwinn Airdyne bikes, of the older generation, have what are called wedge pins. The wedge pin does exactly that; it wedges into a hole in a piece that mates to another piece. These pieces are the crank arms and the bottom bracket shaft. This is the crank and bottom bracket assembly. This is the Sportsmith part number P14100.
The crank and bottom bracket assembly are a common wear area on the Airdyne bikes. These bikes take a lot of punishment as they deliver the demanding workout of their owners.
Pins that won't stay tight can happen when the bike is ridden with loose parts. Click here to read more about loose wedge pins on your Schwinn Airdyne bike.
Note: the crank arms must be installed with the curved side facing in or there can be interference with the connecting arm. Click here to read more about this issue.
