Treadmill Lift Motor Replacement using Precor C956i Treadmill

This video shows how to replace the elevation motor on a treadmill.

Though we use a Precor C956i for this video, the lift motor replacement process is similar on many makes and models.

  1. Turn off the machine and unplug the power cord from the outlet
  2. Remove the motor hood
  3. Disconnect the motor ground wire (if equipped) from the frame or other mounting point
  4. Disconnect the lift motor power from the treadmill's IFT drive (motor control board)
  5. If possible, turn the machine on its side (you may need to remove some plastic covers to prevent damage)
  6. If turning the machine on its side is not possible use blocks or other means to elevate the machine's lift carriage assembly from the floor
  7. Remove the retaining hardware from the upper portion of the motor. Caution: The motor will be free and you will need to support it at this point
  8. Remove the retaining hardware from the lower portion of the elevation motor and remove the motor from the treadmill
  9. Before installing the new motor, most machines require a mechanical calibration of some type or calibration through the console after installation. This machine calibrates by turning the threaded shaft cover down or up to expose 1 1/4" of the jackscrew (the actual threaded shaft)
  10. Put the motor into the machine and install the hardware at the upper and lower end of the motor
  11. Carefully place the machine back to its normal position or remove the blocks used for lifting the treadmill
  12. Install the ground cable to the frame (if equipped)
  13. Plug in the power harness from the motor to the IFT drive (motor control board)
  14. Install the motor hood
  15. Test the machine before returning it to service
  16. This completes the replacement
