Learn how to replace a squat cable on the Xtreme2 and PR3000 home gym models by Bowflex.
The squat cables from Sportsmith come with a ball stop installed onto one end of the cable. The ball stop for the opposite end must be purchased new or taken from the old cable.
Ball stop kits are the OEM item 000-8319.

Squat Cable Routing
Removing the Squat Cable:
- Begin by removing the ball stop from the cable end through the pulley slider on the chest bar.
Slide the ball back and remove the insert from the cable and set it aside. Slide the ball off the cable and set it aside.
Note: You may need to reuse the ball stop if new ball stops were not purchased with your squat cables. - Feed the cable end that the ball stop was removed from into the pulley arm pulley (of the side being serviced). Note: Example photos show the right side of the machine.
- Pull the cable down and through the Inner Frame Rail Pulley.
- Continue feeding the cable through the floating pulley then down through the rear cross bar pulley.
- Finish removing the cable by pulling the end of the cable from the squat slider pulley.
Installing the Squat Cable:
- The new squat cables will have one end without a ball stop. You will feed this end of the cable into the squat slider pulley (of the side being serviced). Then under and through the rear cross bar pulley.
- You will pull the cable up and through the floating pulley.
- Pull the cable down, under, and through the inner frame rail pulley.
- Then pull the cable up and through the pulley arm pulley.
- Install the ball stop onto the end of the cable. This will keep the cable from feeding back through the pulley. Click here to read about replacing a ball stop on your Bowflex cable.
