Troubleshooting Unresponsive Buttons on a Bowflex M5 Max Trainer:

  • Inspect the Connections to the Console.
    1. Remove the four screws connecting the console. You will need the Phillips screwdriver to do this. There are two screws per side. The screws are to the side and back of the console display.
    2. Carefully lift the console to expose the cables and their connections. Be careful not to crimp any cables.
    3. One cable at a time, unplug the cable and plug the cable back in. Making certain that the cable is connected securely and in the proper orientation.
    4. Test to verify if the issue still exists.
  • Verify the Keypad to Console Connection.
    1. The keypad to console cable connects to a 6-pin connector. There happens to be three different 6-pin connectors. You want to confirm the keypad to console cable is connected to the correct 6-pin connector.
    2. The correct 6-pin connector is located at the bottom right of the board. See the examples below; connector is circled in red.

The other two 6-pin connectors are not used and should have nothing connected to them.
  • Inspect the ribbon cable of the keypad to console connection for any damage. Remove the pod button assembly or the keypad with the 5mm Allen or hex wrench. Unplug the ribbon cable and look it over for any damage.

If it is not damaged, plug the cable back in and test if the issue still exists. If damage was found on the ribbon cable, replace the keypad to console cable.
  • If after these checks and any part replacements, if the problem still exists, you need to replace the pod button assembly.
