If you have noise issues with your Schwinn Airdyne AD2 exercise bike, we have some troubleshooting steps to help. The most common cause for a noise complaint on a Schwinn AD2 is the belt not working properly. This can be due to improper tension, a damaged belt, improper alignment, or damaged shrouds.
Tools for Troubleshooting:
- 13mm Socket Wrench
- Flathead Screwdriver
- Phillips Screwdriver
- Pedal Wrench
Common noise complaints for the AD2 Airdyne are:
- Squeaking or Creaking Noises
- Clicking or Clunking Noises
- Squealing Noises
- Rubbing Noises
Troubleshooting Common Noise Complaints of a Schwinn Airdyne AD2
- Begin with a belt inspection; Inspect the belt through the fan covers. The fan cover has holes and cutouts to allow you to view the belt. Inspect the belt for any damage. You are looking for tearing, fraying, or cracking of the belt. If you see obvious damage to the belt, replace it.
- If the noise still exists, remove the fan covers. Click here to read about removing the plastic covers or shrouds from the fan.
Inspect the covers for damage. If a shroud is damaged, identify the damaged shroud and replace it.
A = Rear Fan Covers (Left & Right)
B = Front Fan Cover
C = Bottom Fan Cover
D = Vent Cover - If the noise remains, check for the belt to be rubbing on a shroud. If the belt is rubbing on a shroud, check for damage to the shroud. If you find a damaged shroud, replace it. If the shroud is not damaged, try adjusting the tension of the belt. Click here to read about belt tension adjustment.
- If the issue of the noise still exists, inspect the belt tensioner for damage. If damage is found, replace the belt tensioner. See the example below. The belt tensioner is mounted next to the fan pulley and is highlighted in red.
- If the noise issue still exists, check the alignment of the fan assembly. Check to be sure the fan assembly is straight and even. You will need to remove the covers, once again, to access the fan. Click here to read about removing the plastic covers or shrouds from the fan.
Check that the fan tension is evenly set on both sides of the bike. The tension adjustment bolts on each side of the fan should be evenly adjusted. If it is uneven, you should tighten or loosen either side for an even adjustment.
If the fan remains uneven, loosen the six mounting screws with a Phillips screwdriver and adjust the position of the fan. Re-tighten the screws. See the example below.
This completes the troubleshooting for when a belt is not working properly on the Schwinn AD2 Airdyne exercise bike.
