  Notice

It is important the flywheel does not move during this procedure. Do not turn the crank arms or allow the crank arms to turn. Movement of the flywheel can pull fingers in and cause injury.

  1. Remove the fender or brake cover from the bike. You will do this by removing the screws attaching the fender to the frame. You will need the Phillips screwdriver to remove these screws. Support the fender or brake cover as you remove the hardware. Remove and set the fender or brake cover and its hardware to the side.  See examples below.
Note: Take care not to crimp the cable.
  2. Loosen the brake tension knob to the minimum tension setting.
  3. IC2 Models: Loosen the hardware (A) that connects the brake (C) to the frame bracket (B) with the 3mm hex key wrench. Remove the brake pad. See the example below.

Note: In some instances, the nuts will turn with the screws. You can overcome this by wedging the small flathead screwdriver at a diagonal angle between the nut (A) and the inside of the frame bracket (B).

IC3/IC7/700IC Models: Loosen the hardware (A) that connects the brake (C) to the frame (B) with the 10mm open end wrench. Remove the brake pad. See the example below.
  4. Installing a new brake pad is the reverse of these steps.

This completes how to replace a brake pad on the Schwinn bike models IC2, IC3, IC7, and 700IC.
