Troubleshooting a Noisy Crank and Pedal Connection:

  1. After frequent use or naturally over time, pedals will become loose. It should be normal routine to tighten the pedals as standard bike maintenance. You should check your pedals daily and tighten them before any exercise on the bike. Note: Left pedals are reverse thread. You tighten them by turning them counterclockwise.
  2. Test the bike after checking and tightening the pedals. If the noise is still present, tighten the bolt on the crank arm. You will need the 14mm socket and wrench. Test again to see if the noise still exists. If the noise still exists, repeat these steps on the opposite side. Test the bike again.
  3. If the noise still exists, remove each pedal one at a time. Test the bike after the first pedal is removed. If the noise is gone, you need to buy a new pedal. If the noise still exists, remove the other pedal. Test the bike again. If the noise still exists, replace both pedals and crank arms.
  4. If the noise still exists after replacing both pedals and both crank arms, pick another noise area of the bike to troubleshoot. The next most likely cause for the noise is the connection of the pedal crank and the connector arm.
