This video was designed to help diagnose a Stairmaster 4000pt resistance problem. We offer a simple test we call the 'paper clip trick'.
Tools Needed:
- Paper Clip
To simulate no resistance in the video, we unplugged the gray cable from the console of our Stairmaster 4000PT. The example in the video shows how fast both pedals will drop with no resistance.
For safety reasons, you should remove both shrouds and do a visual check for any mechanical failure before performing the following test.
Procedure:
To verify the operation of all parts except the console take the following action:
- Unplug the unit from the wall.
- Disconnect the gray cable from the console.
- Bend and install a paper clip between pins 2 and 4 on the end of the gray cable.
- With the jumper in place plug the unit back into the wall and test for resistance.
- Step onto the pedals and verify there is resistance.
- If you have good resistance now, the console is the failure.
- If not you have either an alternator, gray cable, or load resistor failure.
- Step onto the pedals and verify there is resistance.
