This video presentation will aid in properly unpacking and assembling your StarTrac NXT cycle.
Tools Required
- Ratchet Handle
- 4MM Allen Socket
- 5MM Allen Socket
- 13MM Wrench
- 15MM Wrench
- 21MM Wrench
- Adjustable Torque Wrench
Removing your NXT Bike from the Packaging:
- To begin the procedure make sure you have plenty of room to work and cut the straps from the box.
- Remove all parts that you can through the top of the box, and then cut the box off of the cycle as shown in the video.
- Carefully remove all items that are taped into the styrofoam: the seat slider, the front leg and the back leg, and the seat.
- Make sure all parts are accounted for before beginning the assembly process.
Assembling the NXT:
- Once you have removed the box from around the cycle, set the legs next to the cycle and with the help of another person carefully set the cycle on the legs.
- Now install the bolts that hold the front and rear legs on.
- 13MM Wrench
- Ratchet Handle
- 4MM Allen Socket
- (2) M10 x 55MM Bolts
- (2) M10 x 65MM Bolts
- 4 Nuts
- 8 Washers
- Make sure that the wheels go on the front of the cycle with the wheels facing the front.
- Tools required are:
- Hardware needed for the legs (included in the assembly parts package):
- The longer bolts go through the thicker portion of the leg and the shorter bolts go through the thinner portion.
- When installing the rear leg on the cycle position the leg so that the thicker portion is facing the front of the cycle.
- Once you have all 8 bolts started in the legs, using your adjustable torque wrench tighten the bolts to 85 inch-pounds or 7 Foot pounds.
- Install the saddle & slider assembly onto the seat post by sliding the saddle on from the front of the seat post and sliding back
- You will have to pull the pin down to move it into place then release it when the number is between “0” and “9” on the seat.
- Now install the seat post into the cycle and install the seat post pop pin. Using a 21MM wrench or the supplied wrench tighten the pop-pin securely.
- If using the supplied wrench to tighten the pin wrap something around it to make sure the pin is tightened enough.
- Trying to install the pedals on the wrong side can damage the pedal and/or crank arm. There is an L or an R on the end of the shaft to designate which side the pedal will mount.
- Take caution to install the pedal to the correct side of the cycle.
- The left and right sides of the cycle are determined by the rider, so if you are on the unit using it your left will be the left side of the cycle and your right will be the right side of the cycle.
- Install the right side pedal first as it will turn clockwise to tighten. Use a 15MM wrench and tighten securely. Use the emergency brake and tension knob to tighten the pedal by first tightening the tension knob and then put a downward push on the knob while tightening the pedal.
- Repeat the process on the left side of the cycle but remember you will have to turn the pedal shaft counter-clockwise to tighten the left pedal.
- Carefully slide the handlebar post into the frame and install it into the sleeve until the number 6 is showing and tighten the pop-pin securely.
- Now insert the handlebar into the post and while holding install the set screw using a 4MM Hex wrench, do not torque yet.
- Now using a 5MM hex wrench install the two screws into the front of the handlebar as shown in the video, but do not torque them yet.
- Check alignment of the handlebars and then using your adjustable torque wrench tighten the hardware to 60 inch-pounds or 5 foot-pounds.
- Before using the bike check all hardware to verify it is tight or tightened to the proper torque specification and that no parts are missing.
- Test the seat slider for movement from front to rear, check the seat to verify it is level and does not rotate around or tilt.
- Test the seat and handlebar posts to make sure they move freely throughout their adjustment range.
- The flywheel will continue to spin after you pedal and the crank arms and pedals will spin with them. Now pedal the cycle at a moderate speed and push down on the emergency brake (resistance knob) to test its operation.
- Brake tension is adjustable by using the red resistance knob on the front of the cycle. Pedal the cycle at a moderate pace and check for proper and smooth resistance changes while varying the number of turns on the knob.
- When the testing is complete and the cycle has reached its final location, check the leveling feet to make sure the bike does not wobble. If it does simply turn one of the feet to adjust them until the bike is stable during use.
